"The setting is the dawn of the age of reason in the early 17th century when Galileo was teaching young students the incredible account of how the earth moves around the sun, rather than the other way around. His heretical announcement, that both the moon and Jupiter only reflect the sun's light, is brought to the attention of the church and he is summoned to the Vatican. His friends abandon him and his appeal to the Pope is intercepted by the inquisitor. Galileo recants, but even while imprisoned he secretly continues his writings. Throughout his life Galileo is pitted against an institution that claims the truth as its own commodity and threatens torture and death to those who would offer an opposing vision." Runs February 8 to March 5. Wednesdays through Saturdays. All evening performances at 7:30 pm. 2:00 Matinees on February 19 and March 5. http://www.undermain.org

Whole Belly Clam Weekend at Sea Breeze

  • Whole Belly Clam Weekend at Sea Breeze

Date: Thursday February 23, 2017 through Sunday February 26, 2017.
Time: All Day Event
Category: Food Special

Location: Sea Breeze Fish Market & Grill, 4017 Preston Road, Suite 530, Plano, TX, 75093
While clam strips are often a staple on the menu of seafood restaurants across the country, normally foodies have to travel to New England to find whole belly clams on the menu. A staple of coastal areas like Ipswich, Massachusetts, whole belly clams use the whole interior of steamer clams, while clam strips use sliced portions of hard-shell clams. For this special weekend, Sea Breeze will offer whole belly clams two different ways, as a Whole Belly Clam Roll or as a generous Whole Belly Platter.

Fishmonger Rick Oruch scheduled the weekend in response to customer interest. “We have a strong customer base of seafood lovers originally from New England who have since moved to North Texas,” notes Oruch. “While they often come in to enjoy our clam chowder or other New England specialties, whole belly clams are very popular, and are not available anywhere else in the region.”

Recognized as a top destination for seafood by The Dallas Morning News, D Magazine, the Dallas Observer, WFAA, City Search and more, Sea Breeze Fish Market & Grill is located in LakeSide Market near the intersection of Preston Road and Spring Creek Parkway. Sea Breeze features a full fish market showcasing a wide variety of fresh and wild seafood from across the planet, as well as a Chef at Home case featuring prepared foods.

This exhibit examines a binary stream of consciousness present in portrait photography. When confronted with the cliché of a smiling subject or a subject’s attempt at a solemn gesture, the politics of portraiture calls into question the veracity of the photographer’s intent as well as the subject's locus of control.
